A Weekly Column on the Force, Life, and Everything In Between

Dear Luke,

I feel like I’m constantly torn between two paths in life. I want to follow my dreams, but I also feel the weight of responsibility to my family and what they expect of me. How do I find balance?

— Lost in the Galaxy

Dear Lost in the Galaxy,

Balance is everything. The Force teaches us that too much light can blind, and too much darkness can consume. Your family’s expectations are important, but so is your own path. I once had to choose between staying on Tatooine and following what I thought was my duty or trusting my instincts and seeking something greater. The choice wasn’t easy, but sometimes, you have to take the first step into the unknown to find out who you really are. Listen to your heart, but also consider how your actions affect those around you. True balance means honoring both duty and destiny.

May the Force be with you,
— Luke

Dear Luke,

Every time I try to improve myself, I keep failing. It’s frustrating. How do I keep going when I feel like I’ll never be good enough?

— Frustrated Padawan

Dear Frustrated Padawan,

Failure is not the opposite of success—it’s a necessary step toward it. When I trained with Master Yoda, I failed… a lot. I struggled to lift my X-wing, I let my emotions get the best of me, and I even rushed into battles I wasn’t ready for. But each failure was a lesson. The only real failure is giving up. Accept that the journey is hard, and trust that every challenge makes you stronger. Keep going, keep learning, and remember—your strength isn’t in never falling, but in always getting back up.

May the Force guide you,
— Luke

Dear Luke,

I have a friend who’s being influenced by the wrong crowd. I want to help them, but I’m afraid they’re too far gone. What should I do?

— Worried in the Outer Rim

Dear Worried,

I once believed my father was beyond saving. He had done terrible things, made choices that hurt countless people. But deep down, I knew there was still good in him. The lesson? No one is ever truly lost. Your friend might be making bad choices, but they still have the ability to change. Show them kindness, remind them of who they are, and don’t let fear cloud your connection with them. However, remember that you can’t control someone else’s choices—you can only offer them a different path. The rest is up to them.

May hope light the way,
— Luke
